We are delighted to introduce you to Magnolia Bakery. Bobbie Llyod, Chief Baking Officer, tells us everything about their gorgeous and delicious wedding cakes.
Dear Bobbie, would you mind to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Bobbie Lloyd and I am Executive Vice President, Operations and Chief Baking Officer at Magnolia Bakery.
When and why Magnolia Bakery decided to cater for weddings?
We’ve long offered a variety of wedding desserts for couples to choose from, including beautifully designed 6” and 9” cakes, personalized cupcakes and bite-size versions of our favorite desserts. We knew, though, that many of our customers were still looking for the traditional tiered wedding cakes so we launched that program in March 2014. The tiered wedding cake designs we feature follow the same Magnolia Bakery style our fans know and love, using classic American buttercream. Our customers now order the tiered cakes in additional to some of our mini desserts for their weddings.
What do you enjoy the most in your job?
I have the best job on the planet. I have the pleasure of working with an amazing team, developing new product and seeing happy customers. What’s not to love?
How would you describe your style for wedding cakes ? What make them different, unique?
They taste as good as they look! Like all of our baked goods, our wedding cakes are made by hand using our classic American recipes and decorated in Magnolia Bakery’s iconic style. Additionally, we have wedding specialists at each of our locations that will work closely with each couple to choose a wedding cake flavor, filling and design that best reflects their personal style.
Why do you think Cakes are such an important element of weddings?
Cakes – and desserts in general – are a customary end to celebrate life’s big events like birthdays, wedding and baby showers, and congratulatory events. It only seems fitting that at weddings, the event would end on a sweet note as well!
What would be your top tips when choosing a wedding cake supplier in Dubai?
Weddings are such personal events, so the first thing you should think of is what you and your partner are looking for in terms of flavor, design and price. From there, you can narrow down your options about who to reach out to about your order. Bakeries will set-up tastings with each couple so there is an opportunity to sample the product and make a decision based on what you most enjoy. At Magnolia Bakery, we set-up consultations and tastings with each couple based on their personal preferences to give them an opportunity to decide on their flavor and design.
Is there any interesting trend for Wedding Cakes this year?
In the industry as a whole, couples are moving away from over designed fondant covered cakes. I’ve seen a lot of the naked cakes (cakes without icing all the way around). As well couples are moving away from the classic vanilla or chocolate cake flavors and going a for a more interesting flavor profile such as hummingbird, carrot or pistachio cake and layering them in tiers.
Can you share with us the most extravagant request you had from a bride?
Wedding cakes are so personal, so there’s always a lot of different requests that we receive. Recently, we did a carrot cake entirely covered in gold. It was very extravagant compared to many of our customers design requests!
